Monster Mash

(2023)

This is a fake rebrand for a project that I previously created during my time as a design student. The new visual language is more playful, energetic, and unashamedly silly. The design draws inspiration from well-known monsters that are loved by kids of all ages. It features vibrant colors, bold text, and a whimsical touch intended to capture the attention of younger viewers. The ultimate goal was to establish a brand of organic fruit juices that kids love for their delicious taste and fun packaging while parents appreciate them for their natural and healthy ingredients

The monster characters play a crucial role in this brand's visual language so I made sure the illustrations were eye-catching and easy to identify, emphasizing each character's distinct characteristics.

Character Design
I applied Shape Language (a concept used in art and animation to communicate meaning based on shapes we are familiar with), to the creation of my characters. This enabled them to have a unique and distinctive personality. I also ensured that each character could be easily identified by their silhouette and made necessary adjustments to create the most simplified version possible.

Comparison between the old and updated design
I designed a new wordmark that is cleaner, more distinctive and that matches well with the monster graphics. In my previous design, the vampire's color was the only one that didn't match with the fruit, so I ensured that it matched too. However, when I changed the vampire's skin color to red, it seemed more like a demon than a vampire. Therefore, I opted to switch the fruit to a blueberry to suit the vampire's bluish skin tone better.

I also added a piece sticking out of each fruit in the illustration to create a cleaner and more consistent look. Additionally, I made the overall colors more vibrant and added a color shape behind the fruit name in order to add more contrast and make it more prominent.
